About Me
I'm Andraž, and I'm figuring it out as I go. I'm a tech enthusiast with a background in chemical engineering, exploring the world of tech and learning on the way. There are so many things I have yet to figure out and I'm excited to share my journey.
From chemistry to tech
I got my BSc in chemistry and one thing was clear: I did not like working in a laboratory and I did not enjoy chemistry as much as I thought I would. The realization came quite late, but I was lucky enough to be able to enroll in a MSc in chemical engineering. Yes, still plenty of chemistry, but a lot of problem solving and a much more practical approach.
Teaching Myself to Code
My university had an introductory Python course that I really enjoyed, so I figured why not try more of this cool thing called Python? This is how I realized coding can be lots of fun and just something I really enjoy doing. I started doing some courses and fell in love with frontend development.
I had the opportunity to learn from the best - I was accepted into Povio Software Engineering Academy which was focused on frontend. It taught me more than any course ever could. Everything was practical and there were tons of real examples from people with years of experience as frontend developers. I unfortunately wasn't selected to continue working for them - but the opportunity taught me more than I could have hoped for.
From my first IT job to where I stand today
I worked in healthcare as an IT support specialist for over a year. I learned a ton, but it's not what you think. Talking to people, communicating with them, trying to understand and solve their problems is what I did on a daily basis. It's the soft skills that are super important but people usually do not emphasize their importance enough.
Today I'm working with AI, where we develop our own model for Slovenian speech transcription.
What I'm Learning Now
Two main things: becoming a better writer and becoming a better coder. There is so much more about coding and computer science in general than just frontend development. Things can get very complicated very quickly and I think figuring it out, although sometimes frustrating, is the beauty of it. It's supposed to be challenging.
I'm also actively working on something harder than coding: getting rid of imposter syndrome. First step is to simply accept that I'm still learning and that's okay! Second step is realizing how far I've already come, despite it not feeling like I've accomplished much. Third step is to embrace the journey of learning and improving myself every single day.
Why This Website Exists
This is my little corner of the internet where I share my thoughts on a deeper level than what I post on Linkedin. Most of the content you see is similar, but my website has that personal touch that Linkedin lacks.
I'm sharing everything from my thoughts, tools I use, tips & tricks and just about anything else that might be useful to someone who's on a similar path.
